Five services that help manage disability better

Five services that help manage disability better

Disabled people are constantly seeking help that makes them more skillful and independent and that’s what NDIS daily support provides. As there are many support and services that may assist people with disability in this blog, we will discuss the top five benefits of NDIS.

1.  Short-Term Accommodation

Short-Term Accommodation is a service in which an NDIS participant can find themselves in a position where they require Accommodation for a short period, for example, if their requirements expand due to illness or after a hospital stay.

Short term accommodation may be an opportunity to consider, and there are different types of STA available

STA care: is where the NDIS participant is paired up with support workers for a period that fits their requirements.

Group short-term opportunities: match the participant’s requirements with others who may have comparable needs and interests and enjoy participating in a group activity.

Facility-based: is where the participant’s requirements and interests align with shared short-term accommodation establishments

2.  Respite Care

NDIS respite care was created to provide NDIS participants with their everyday support. By staying in short-term accommodation, the participants were treated with a different view and a break from routine. At the same time, their informal NDIS support network also gets some time to themselves. Respite care is not only about accommodation; it even affects the support the participant obtains while staying there. Depending on the level of NDIS support and care they need, the short-term accommodation provider may permit the participant to work with a particular support worker and fine tune their support for more accurate care. NDIS respite care may also offer capacity-building community tasks and activities, such as group fitness activities, as part of their stay.

3.  NDIS Core Support:

The NDIS Core budget has four different types of support:

  1. Consumables (e.g. getting daily use items)
  2. Daily Activities (e.g. help with self-care tasks and activities during the day or evening)
  3. Assistance with Social and Community Participation (e.g. supports to help the participant to immerse in social or recreational activities)
  4. Transport (e.g. if the participant is incapable of utilizing public transport because of their disability).

4. Group Activities:

The NDIS social or recreational activities play a vital role in supporting and enhancing wellbeing. They enable relationships and engagement with the community, offer opportunities to meet new people, and discover new skills.

NDIS group activities allow people to come together and communicate their experiences while delivering a platform to learn new social skills and create solid relationships. There are unique and creative activities in addition to more formal group activities such as cooking, gardening, meditation, etc.

5. Support Coordination:

When it comes to guiding and coordinating the NDIS support, the most significant person in every NDIS Plan is the participant.

Whether the participant requires help participating in daily life, putting up service contracts with providers, or managing complex or challenging situations, the NDIS will work alongside the participant.
